The 2005/2006 Girls (17U) team, coached by Samantha Conselman with support from Michael Clayton and Eric Hewitt, had a busy, fun summer on and off the field. Players and families on this team helped pioneer the service priorities of the AYSO United Davis' VOICE program. On the field, they are known for supporting each other during the tough times and enjoying each other in the good times. Other teams and spectators notice their intense style and their being each others' #1 supporters. They are a team that holds themselves and others around them to a high standard of athleticism and sportsmanship.

Coming off of a year of little competition during the COVID-19 pandemic, this team showed up at the Stanford Summer Classic ready to go! In a bracket of eight teams, United 05G made it to the finals to play Coastal Valley 805 Elite, a Gold team from CalSouth. Early in the match United went down 0-2 but recovered to 2-2 by halftime by converting a penalty kick and far-post cross to even the score line. The battle in the second half ended with a beautiful shot in the last five minutes by Coastal Valley to seal the game. After over a year without tournaments, the team represented themselves and our program with an impressive 2nd place finish! Congratulations Ladies!

Off the pitch, the team is an active group, participating in activities that enhance their team experience through volunteerism.

They enjoy giving back to Davis AYSO in multiple ways. They have participated in painting the AYSO Building. They have translated AYSO documents into Spanish. They have been referees in youth games. They are "buddies" for the AYSO VIP Program. They coach 7U teams as youth trainers.

They also volunteer in the community as a team. Last year, they and other AYSO teams helped Community Harvest of Davis harvest pomegranates for the Yolo County Food Bank. This year the team hopes to continue the theme by aiding Community Harvest or Yolo Food Bank directly either in the fall season or during the off-season.

Finally, the players on this team are very active in academic and extracurricular activities in their schools. Some have already etched their names on the record books for high school track. Others are churning out miles for the cross-country team, creating robots as part of Citrus Circuits, performing in orchestra and band, running Etsy businesses and completing Eagle Scout projects.

And, of special note, players from this team played on the first-ever Davis Senior High School 9th Grade Girls Team last season (pictured right). In a special season that started while students were still in virtual on-line school, these players represented their high school and community to the highest standards -- and will forever be able to say they were part of history at their high school!

The next chance to catch the 2005G Blue team at home is October 2nd at 10am on Nugget West!
